Walking

Gujan-Mestras is a destination that can be enjoyed at any time of year.

Each of the four seasons is an invitation to blossom in contact with nature, with landscapes that change with time and the tides.

Parc de la Chêneraie

Parc de la Chêneraie is a haven for nature lovers. Whether you’re looking for a quiet getaway or a more athletic outdoor experience, the park offers the ideal setting to recharge your batteries.

With the Canal des Landes running through it, the park’s length and breadth, and its botanical and ornithological interest, with its centuries-old cork oaks and richly varied flora and fauna, make it an unforgettable experience. The Canal des Landes is a man-made waterway that should have linked the Bay of Arcachon to Bayonne via the Landes ponds.

You can walk or cycle through the park’s paths, work out in the fitness area, watch your children play in the playground, take a picnic break at one of the outdoor tables, enjoy the coolness of the trees in summer. Dogs are allowed on a leash.

The coastal path

The coastal path winds its way between the waters of the Bassin d’Arcachon, salt meadows, oyster ports and former fish farming reserves. It’s just over 7 kilometers long, from the port of La Hume to the port of La Mole.

Discover new natural landscapes at every turn. In an unspoilt natural environment, with changing contours according to the amplitude of the tides, your route alternates panoramic views and authentic encounters in the spirit of the Bassin. Gujan-Mestras, with its seven ports facing the basin, is considered the oyster-farming capital of the Bassin d’Arcachon.

Pets are allowed on the coastal path, provided they are kept on a leash.

Lac de la Magdeleine

Nestled in a pine forest, Lac de la Magdeleine is an ideal place for walking, fishing, picnicking, relaxing… a perfect place for the whole family. Ducks, geese and swans call it home.

As night falls, the lake is transformed by a play of lights, creating a relaxed atmosphere that showcases the lake, the island and the surrounding vegetation. The lighting, which uses new technologies to protect the environment and save energy, produces a truly enchanting effect as soon as the daylight fades.

In the immediate vicinity of the lake, you’ll find picnic tables, a children’s playground, the casino, a bowling alley, a skate park, restaurants, accommodation and amusement parks.

Please note that swimming is prohibited!

However, you can hire electric boats to navigate the lake at the Pirate Mini-Port located on one of the shores.
