THE BIRD ISLAND TOUR

A little history ...

Île aux Oiseaux, located in the heart of the Bay of Arcachon, is an emblematic site known for its Cabanes Tchanquées and exceptional biodiversity. Once a simple sandbank that shifted with the tides, it has gradually been colonized by vegetation and birds, becoming a natural refuge.

In the 19th century, oyster farmers set up huts here to keep an eye on their oyster beds. The famous Cabanes Tchanquées, perched on stilts, appeared at the end of the 19th century and became a symbol of the Bassin. Classified as a protected area, the island is home to numerous species of migratory birds and is a fragile space.

Access is regulated to preserve this unique ecosystem. Île aux Oiseaux continues to fascinate visitors with its ever-changing landscape and wild atmosphere. It embodies the link between human activity and the unspoilt nature of the Bay of Arcachon.
