Foreshore treasures at low tide

A living frontier between the terrestrial and marine worlds, the foreshore is a fascinating space brimming with mysteries and discoveries.

As the tides come in, it reveals its unsuspected treasures: tidal flats, mud, grass beds, sand… so many rich and varied environments where a multitude of species find refuge.

Go in search of periwinkles and crabs, learn how to observe and catch them, and better understand their way of life.

Even more challenging, try to spot mud worms by scrutinizing the subtle clues they leave on the surface of the sand… A captivating exploration where patience and curiosity will be your best allies, revealing all the richness and fragility of this ecosystem in perpetual motion!

Salt meadows: a fragile and little-known environment

Obione, salicorne, asters, waders, rabid crabs, hydrobies… These intriguing names evoke a little-known yet essentialworld: that of salt meadows, these unique environments that draw the coastline of the Bay of Arcachon.

As a real transition zone between land and sea, they are home for exceptional biodiversity, where halophilous plants and small creatures cohabit to the rhythm of the tides.

During this immersion tour, meet these fascinating species through naturalist observations and even surprising gustatory discoveries.

  • How many participants per guide?

    To ensure the best possible experience, each group (class) gets its own guide. This allows students to benefit from personalized guidance, to ask questions and actively participate in discussions. This organization also encourages greater immersion, more attentive observation and richer interaction with the environment being explored.

  • From what age are activities offered?

    The activities are accessible fromCycle 3, i.e. from CM1 (approx. 9 years old) for “La Dune du Pilat : un milieu fragile” and “Les trésors de l’estran à marée basse“.

    The activity “Les prés salés : un milieu fragile et méconnu(Salt meadows: a fragile and little-known environment) is accessible fromCycle 4, i.e. from 5th grade (approx. 12 years).

  • How much time is needed for these activities?

    The activity lasts between 1h30 and 2h.
