Reconnecting with nature

Reconnect with nature in Gujan-Mestras: forest walks, birdwatching and moments of serenity by the water.

Parc de la Chêneraie

Live to the rhythm of the tides, enjoy the simple pleasures of an authentic heritage, appreciate the unparalleled luminosity, take advantage of the contrasting landscapes between sea and forest: Gujan-Mestras is a generous and friendly destination that will surprise you.

Gujan-Mestras is a destination that can be experienced at any time of year, each of the four seasons being an invitation to blossom in contact with nature, with landscapes changing with the rhythm of the weather and the tides.

Linking the town’s 7 ports, the coastal path invites you to take a surprising and invigorating stroll. Whether along this path or in the Parc de la Chêneraie, you’ll discover a rich and varied flora, inhabited by a discreet fauna.

Lake Magdeleine

Bordered by the forest, with its playground and picnic tables, you’ll be able to share pleasant family moments at Lac de la Magdeleine. The lake is closed to swimming, but don’t hesitate to rent a small electric boat at the pirate mini-port! The lake is also a great place for angling.

La Hume beach

Take a break and lay down your towel on the fine sand of Plage de la Hume. Bordered by tamarisk and pine trees, it offers a panoramic view of the Bay of Arcachon.

The beach’s appearance changes with the tides. At high tide, the area is ideal for family bathing and water sports such as paddleboarding and kitesurfing. At low tide, you can relax on the sand or stroll along the esteys (small channels where the water still circulates) in search of crabs and other shellfish. Be sure to respect the size of the shells and crustaceans to ensure the long-term protection of this fragile environment.

Cycling in the forest

And to make the most of this natural environment and breathe in the fresh sea air, take or rent a bike to the town’s various natural areas, which are linked by an efficient network of cycle paths, part of which wind through the pine forest.

A number of cycle paths take you through the pine forests, Gujan-Mestras districts and oyster ports, for family outings or outings with friends.
